Historical Background
Ipswich Town Football Club is a professional English football club that plays in the EFL (English Football League) Championship, England's second-highest level of football! The club has been around for 141 years, from the time it was founded in 1878 in Ipswich, Suffolk.
Although the club's beginnings dates over a century, its professional history is not as old: the club started donning its pro status in 1936, and was soon after elected into the EFL in 1938. Despite not having been professional for much, the boys at Ipswich are some serious players!
The Tractor Boys Plough the Competition!
Despite their ridiculous nickname, given to them by fans as a humorous reference to Ipswich's agricultural heritage, the boys in blue are fantastic players, making Ipswich Town on TV and live stream an excellent choice for football on TV and live stream.
Crest and Colours
The team's original kit consisted of a blue-and-white striped shirt and black shorts. However, shortly after becoming professionals, they switched to blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks, which have remained their traditional colours, earning them their nickname The Blues!
The first crest used by The Blues in the 60s was based off the Ipswich coat-of-arms. Then, in 1972, the crest was revamped to feature a Suffolk Horse holding a ball under one of its feet, with waves beneath it to represent the town's connection to the sea, and a turret of Wolsey Gate.
The inner part of the crest was coloured blue, and it was bordered in yellow and the words 'Ipswich Town F.C.'. In 1995, the crest was updated to give the horse a better look, having the Wolsey Gate turret on the outside, change the yellow border to red, and have 'F.C.' extended to 'Football Club'.
Stadium
This team didn't have much trouble finding a home! Between 1878 and 1884, they played in 2 grounds: Broom Hill and Brook's Hall. Then, in 1884, the team moved to Portman Road, which has been their home ever since! Since then, they've been renovating and improving their ground!
Key Players
Great teams are made up of great players, and Ipswich is no exception: the first player we'd have to mention is Luke Chambers who won the Ipswich Town Player of the Year this year! Then we must mention Bartosz Marek Białkowski who won the award 3 times in a row between 2016 and 2018!
Records and Noteworthy Stats
The Blues have definitely proved themselves to be excellent players, far from being pushovers by a longshot, by having defeated some of the best European teams around, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Lazio, A.C. Milan, and Inter Milan!
Furthermore, they have a few more achievements to brag about, since they've won the Football League First Division once and were runner-ups twice, the Football League Second Division 3 times, the FA Cup once, and the UEFA Europa League once!
